The cord was long enough.

That’s right, the cable cord was long enough to move the tv to the other side of the bedroom. The pictures don’t do the bedroom justice, but it feels so much better this way. We can now look out the one window to see if it’s storming, dark.. etc, because we usually have the curtains closed to the big windows, since the neighbors house is right there. And it’s actually cooler to sleep on the opposite side, since the a/c blows right towards us. Win-Win. But before I show you the room all rearranged, let me refresh your brain to what the bedroom use to be like…

The bedroom use to be the catch-all for all of the junk in the apartment, but we’ve really been going thru stuff and selling or getting rid of things. The only things left in the bedroom are tires (which are going on my car in October) and leftover parts from Travis’ electric drums. Oh, and a huge futon mattress, which my sister is suppose to be coming to pick up soon.

Anyways, the bedroom is now just about clutter free. Except for Coco’s toys, she is spoiled!

I’m pretty sure that when Travis & I do make that jump into home-ownership, that we will re-arranged things a million times. You always think you know exactly where everything should go, but as you live with that decision for awhile, it becomes clear how things should really be re-arranged. Or maybe I just like playing “musical furniture”. I always did re-arrange my bedroom furniture about 234,343 times while growing up. That’s probably why by the time I was a teenager, most of my furniture was broken from pushing it around so much, oops.

I also know that when we do become home owners, that we will need the following: tv mount, new dresser, new bed frame & headboard & new nightstands. All of our stuff is borrowed (bed frame & headboard) or falling apart (dresser). I see a lot of dollar signs… crap.

Attempt at a Photo Gallery Wall #2

I highly doubt you remember my old photo wall and that is okay because most of those pictures have since fallen down. We didn’t want to put holes in the walls at the apartment back then, so we bought some heavy duty mounting tape. It worked for about a day, and then the frames started falling one by one. But for some reason the three biggest frames are still stuck on the wall, and I can’t for the life of me get them unstuck. So our photo wall at the bottom of the steps looks really weird. This time I decided to move the photo wall into the mudroom. After re-arranging it a bit, of course.

I used both nails and mounting tape to hold these suckers up so they wouldn’t move every time the door opened and closed. I think I’m going to add more pictures to this little gallery over time, and extend it all the way to the ceiling, but for now this is all I had on hand. (& yes, I realize that there is a giant screw sticking out of the wall. That was there when we moved in, and I don’t have a drill to remove it. I’d yank it out if I was the hulk, but I’m not.)

Oh, I realized a few posts back that I guess I never talked about the gerbils. We have two; Bora is grey and is impossible to get a picture of, and Scirocco is tan. (Yes we named our gerbils after Volkswagen Models. #RestInPeaceGLI) They are going to be three in December, which is the typical lifespan of a gerbil. Poor little guys. Here is Scirocco:

Coco is loving where her food dish is now, mostly because she loves to sleep on the step that leads to the bedroom. Here is a little refresher for you guys, and a little diagram for some newcomers (hi! so glad you’re here). In this picture I am standing in the doorway of the bathroom and looking into the mudroom.

Tonight, I think we are going to re-arrange the bedroom. Only if the cable cord can reach to the other side of the bedroom though. We’d like to switch the bed & the dresser/tv stand. We’ll see. :)

Inspired Again.

You might remember me saying that I really didn’t want to do anything with the apartment lately, since it’s temporary and it’s just not pretty. Potential = Zero. However, Travis and I are going on vacation in less than a month, which means I’m in organize and cleaning mode. I hate coming home from vacation to a place where things need done, I like coming home to everything being put away, clutter free and all. That way we can come home and relax for awhile before starting any new projects. This all has kind of given me a kick in the pants in the inspiration department. I’ve decided to re-arrange things and I even plan on hanging more picture frames. Shocker, I know.

When I came home from work yesterday, I decided to re-organize the mudroom. I brought the bookcase from downstairs and the gerbils up into the mudroom. Our landlord is most likely going to be taking care of Coco and our gerbils while we are gone, so I figured having the gerbil cage right in the entrance would make things super easy for her. The pictures on the left are before pictures, which were taken on my phone. (I was too excited to get started and my phone was already near by) The photos on the right are the after. :)

I also put Coco’s food dishes in the mudroom. She did have a set of food dishes on each floor, but I’m cutting her down to one, and put it in a central location to see how it goes. I think she approves.

Here is the new view from the bottom of the stairs. I have a bunch of frames sitting on top of the gerbil cage. I’m going to hang them above the cage as soon as I can find the hammer. I also added a basket next to the cage, so we can throw our keys/wallets into as we come in the door.

It’s all still a work in progress, but I’m finally doing things to the apartment again!
Another thing on the list to do before we leave on vacation, is to tackle this pile…

It’s all parts that are from Travis’ car or were suppose to go on his car, before it became a ball of fire. We need to go thru the pile and figure out what we can sell and what is just junk. Then list them for sale online at various websites.

Are you like me and you have to do a really good cleaning of your place for vacation? Or do you just leave as is?
