Weekend Wrap-Up #27

Did this past weekend fly by, or was it just me? If flew by so fast that I don’t even remember what we did on Friday night, but thanks to pictures I remember all of my Saturday. On Saturday morning, Travis got all Gordon Ramsay and made breakfast the way Gordon makes it. Apparently, the scrambled eggs we’ve been making are “over-cooked”. Real scrambled eggs take FOREVER to make, and your arm just about falls off in the process. They were the weirdest scrambled eggs I’ve ever had. I’ll stick with my over-cooked eggs. The bacon was delicious though! I ♥ bacon!

After breakfast we loaded up the car and headed to Travis’ Mom’s camp in Union County for the night. The weather was perfect for the entire weekend and the leaves were finally looking fall-like.

On the way up to camp, Travis’ Mom hinted me about a winery we’d pass on the way up. I told Travis about it, and I thought he’d be like “screw that”, but after we passed it, he made a U-turn and went back!

It was called Shade Mountain Winery & Vineyards and they have free wine tasting, for up to 7 different kinds. So we marked down the wines we wanted to try and tasted them before buying six bottles of wine. We bought the following wines: blueberry, plum, Granny Z’s Mint Iced Tea, mead & a concord.

& I now have a new favorite wine: The Granny Z’s Mint Iced Tea Wine! (I can’t believe I found something that puts my favorite West Hanover Blueberry wine to shame.) It is delicious! Travis, his Mom & I all finished the bottle that afternoon (along with the blueberry & some of the mead) around the campfire; perfection. You actually CRAVE this wine, it’s that good. It also doesn’t have that bitter taste that most wines do, it just tastes like tea. It could be quite dangerous.

After our little wine pit-stop, we spent the night at camp and went to a fire companies haunted hayride & haunted house. The hayride was not even worth it, but the Haunted house was not bad. & I’ve learned that people wearing costumes on stilts freak me out. We left camp Sunday morning and went home to clean & watch the Patriots game (They won!).

How was your weekend?

P.S. I HIGHLY recommend that Granny Z’s Mint Iced Tea Wine. You can buy it online here. It’s so good that we wanted to pick up more bottles of it on our way home, but they didn’t open for another hour when we passed it, so Travis’ Mom is picking us up two bottles next weekend. I’m still craving the stuff! I see us making many trips out to this winery during the winter & making it a permanent pit-stop on the way to camp.

Haha Shade Mountain has a store in our little town, so when we go on family walks we go in to pick up a bottle and and taste their wines (well, Matt and I do, the boys eat crackers). Their spiced apple is very good too! More like a cider, but yummy!

I didn’t try the spiced apple – I’d like to go back & try that one, the cranberry & the elderberry. We pass by the vineyard in Middleburg on the way to camp. Never noticed it though until this past weekend.

My friends and I make scrambled eggs that way – we call them magic scrambled eggs! But they do take an age, so we only make them when we’re all together! When I’m at home I love poached or fried.

Looks like you had a nice weekend!

My step-grandmother makes scrambled eggs in a pot. Hers are delicious and I have never ever been able to replicate them. Travis’ look delish and I too love bacon.

You have so many wineries by you! There are like 2 out here that I’m aware of. I’ve never done a tour, but I might have to one day.

I never liked runny scrambled eggs (something about it freaks me out). I’m with you on the over-cooked style!
