Fall Mantel 2012

Our mantel has been extra plain lately… (Yes, there is a lady wearing a cheesehead on our tv. I think it was an Old Navy commercial for NFL gear.)

Now that the beginning of fall is just around the corner, I decided to decorate the mantel & fireplace for the upcoming season. One of the first things I did, was decorate one of my hurricane vases. I bought a packet of fall colored leaves at the Dollar store and used a candle I already had lying around.

I put the candle in the vase and surrounded it with the entire packet of leaves. Instant fall feeling. I might swap the leaves out later on, for some acorns (if I can find any).

The next thing I did was pick up some glass vases and glass candlesticks from the Dollar store, and used this tutorial & some E-6000to make some hurricane vases.

Once they were dry, I stuck some candles in them and then wrapped them in burlap and ribbon like I did last Valentine’s day. I had three different kinds of orange ribbon, but Travis picked out this kind to wrap them with… good choice.

From there I added some leaf garland around the mantel, that I picked up from Michael’s craft store for $7. (It was 40% off)

Everything is easy & simple. Just the way I like it. I am thinking about making some bunting to hang from the mantel yet. But we’ll see. Right now I’m trying to finish my fall wreath.

Check out my other holiday mantels: Saint Patrick’s Day 2012, Valentine’s Day 2012 & Christmas 2011.

I love your mantle! It looks great! I’m so ready to decorate the interior of our house for fall but it seems silly to put up a wreath when your floor is littered with tools and paint supplies. Ugh. I might do it anyway!

I love your hurricanes!! We have about a zillion acorns in the Fall and I was already planning on putting them in our hurricane so when you said that, I smiled. :)

looks great! We just did an acorn project with Jack that I am planning to post about soon, we went to the park and there were acorns EVERYWHERE!

I really like the way your hurricane lanterns turned out, the burlap was a good choice (and the ribbon, of course)!

I am so doing that w/the vases. I have a bunch leftover from our wedding… over two years ago! I knew there was a reason I was saving them for so long. What a great idea!
