Apartment Tour – Fall 2012

After seeing Young House Love‘s & Attempts at Domestication‘s house tours, I figured that I better get on that and do an apartment tour before we move, since I never did one for our first apartment. Today was the perfect time to do one too, because we have been cleaning ALL FREAKING DAY. Literally. Travis woke up wanting to clean. We even sprayed inside and outside of the apartment for bugs (oh, the joys of basement living) and cleaned the windows inside and out. Since the apartment was clean, I did a video tour quick.
Couple things before you watch the video:

  • I did one half of the video during the day, the other half at night. That’s why it’s bright out for the first part, but then the windows are pitch black during the second half.
  • My SD card is corrupted in my camera, so the video kept terminating itself after 50 seconds, that’s why the video kind of skips at certain parts.
  • Yes, the oven burners are off. We were cleaning all day, and we didn’t put them back in yet.
  • Travis was watching TV and writing an email out to DirecTV (our receiver over-heated), so he was in a bad mood, so I didn’t say a word during the kitchen and living room parts. Not much to say anyways, other than… here is the kitchen and here is the living room. But I have faith in you, that you can tell which room is which. ;)
  • Yes, that is my sunburst mirror, upside down, on the living room floor. Yes, I started it seven months ago. No, it’s not finished yet…very close, but no.
  • The interstate runs behind our apartment, so it’s very loud outside.
  • I said I was not going to talk when I walked down the hallway into our apartment, because I had laundry going. It’s not nearly as loud on video as I thought it was going to be.
  • Cutest part of video = when Coco meows at me to pet her.

If you have a blog, do a house tour pleasseeee. :) I love watching them, and they really do help the reader learn how your place is laid out. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I’d love to do a house tour but my house is literally void of furniture… just a bed, couch, and recliner. I don’t have enough belongings to fill this three bedroom house. LOL. All I have is my college stuff still.

That bathroom tile would drive me insane!

I don’t mind the no furniture thing :) & it does drive me batty. Believe me.

Oh that was so fun! Loved the tour! The living room/kitchen is bigger than I realized. It’s different that the living area and sleeping area are on two levels – I’ve never seen that in a basement apartment before. Usually it’s just a box with few rooms off of it. It’s kind of nice to have the separation. Thanks so much for sharing! Hmmm…Should I do a video tour? Maybe when my entry way is complete.

We love the separation but we tend to hangout in the bedroom more since it has windows. & you should make one!

I feel like the person that did the tiling in there was colorblind.

Your kitchen is way bigger than it looks in pictures! And that tile is ridiculous lol. I love video tours too :)

I love watching these, but we still have equipment and crap laying around. The only thing in the office right now is random doorknobs, a screwdriver, and dust… Not much fun to watch!

I think it would be fun to watch – plus you can do another one 6 months from now and see how far you’ve come. :)

I love video tours. It definitely gives a much better perspective on where rooms are in relation to others and size. Thanks for sharing!

I think I might go home and do one of these. I need to be less lazy and make the bed and pick up random dog toy innards off the floor though.

This really helps me get a feel for your place. I never realized the bedroom was on a separate floor from the kitchen and living rooms. You just have to wonder what the installer was thinking when they installed the tile in the bathroom. You guys will definitely be laughing about that for years to come!
It was also great to hear your voice. Now I can read your posts in your voice. It makes it more personal. I guess in saying that I should make a video but honestly I can’t stand to listen to myself on video… camera shy!

    Yup, it’s a split level apartment. :)

I feel like the installer was either 1. colorblind or 2. used leftover tiles from other projects, which would explain the different shaped tiles and colors.

Love video tours- I’ll have to watch this after work so I can have the benefit of sound!!

I am considering doing a video tour- I really hate my voice on camera though! Maybe I’ll do one once the 100 in progress projects are done and we’re closer to listing it. It should look nicer then! lol. I want to do a day in the life post too…. so many posts to write… so little time!

Yes – you need sound! Otherwise the video might make you dizzy :P

I did a house tour when we first bought our place, but I sounded so silly in it that I never posted it haha. It’d be crazy to go back and see the difference between then and now.

Btw, I never realized how big your kitchen/living room area was. And I love that you have separation between spaces even though you are in a basement apartment. Thanks for sharing! :)

You should post both of them! I’d love to see the difference.
