Inspired Again.

You might remember me saying that I really didn’t want to do anything with the apartment lately, since it’s temporary and it’s just not pretty. Potential = Zero. However, Travis and I are going on vacation in less than a month, which means I’m in organize and cleaning mode. I hate coming home from vacation to a place where things need done, I like coming home to everything being put away, clutter free and all. That way we can come home and relax for awhile before starting any new projects. This all has kind of given me a kick in the pants in the inspiration department. I’ve decided to re-arrange things and I even plan on hanging more picture frames. Shocker, I know.

When I came home from work yesterday, I decided to re-organize the mudroom. I brought the bookcase from downstairs and the gerbils up into the mudroom. Our landlord is most likely going to be taking care of Coco and our gerbils while we are gone, so I figured having the gerbil cage right in the entrance would make things super easy for her. The pictures on the left are before pictures, which were taken on my phone. (I was too excited to get started and my phone was already near by) The photos on the right are the after. :)

I also put Coco’s food dishes in the mudroom. She did have a set of food dishes on each floor, but I’m cutting her down to one, and put it in a central location to see how it goes. I think she approves.

Here is the new view from the bottom of the stairs. I have a bunch of frames sitting on top of the gerbil cage. I’m going to hang them above the cage as soon as I can find the hammer. I also added a basket next to the cage, so we can throw our keys/wallets into as we come in the door.

It’s all still a work in progress, but I’m finally doing things to the apartment again!
Another thing on the list to do before we leave on vacation, is to tackle this pile…

It’s all parts that are from Travis’ car or were suppose to go on his car, before it became a ball of fire. We need to go thru the pile and figure out what we can sell and what is just junk. Then list them for sale online at various websites.

Are you like me and you have to do a really good cleaning of your place for vacation? Or do you just leave as is?

I’m exactly like this. I like to have everything in it’s place before I leave for any length of time. I hate coming home to a mess! Glad to see you’re feeling a little more inspired! Perhaps the fall weather is helping as well?

I’m almost positive it’s the fall weather. Summertime puts me at a stand still.

I’m itching to get home today. I found the hammer this morning before heading to work, so I’m anxious!

I always plan to have the house spotless before leaving for vacation…
but it never quite happens that way! haha
We’re going away this weekend and the house still has all the post-wedding piles EVERYWHERE… but I think they’ll be around for a while anyways. ;)

That bookcase is a perfect fit for the space! Can’t wait to see what else you do with this new found inspiration! :)

oh it looks great!! You made great use of that space!

I haaaaate coming home to a mess. It pus me in a bad mood right away. which is funny because I was always super messy growing up. Now I cant even stand leaving dishes in the sink because they are the first thing I see in the morning and put me in a bad mood!

I really like the changes you are making/have made to your apartment. I think so often renters get kind of stuck with things they cant renovate(kitchens :( ), so it is good to see someone making the changes they can!

Love the new mudroom! It seems like it’s so much more functional now.

I’m definitely with you on the cleaning before vacation thing, but unfortunately Kevin is not on the same page and comes through like a tornado and messes everything up. I always like coming home to a neat and organized place, so I go through in the mornings before I leave for work and fold the blanket on the couch and fluff the pillows and take any dirty dishes into the kitchen. It’s so great not to live with roommates now and I can actually be the neat freak I really am.

I’m like that too! Cleaning the house and picking everything up is always at the top of my to-do list, even before packing. Now I can’t say it always gets done perfectly, but even a little seems to ease my mind.

Why is that!? It seems like a weird instinct most people have!

I definitely like to clean up before leaving the house- even if I’m just leaving for a few hours. It is super frustrating to me to come home to a mess (especially in the kitchen… I hate dirty dishes!).

Your update is really cute : ) It looks much more functional now which is always a plus!! Our entire house needs a clean and purge- I’m itching to get started but dreading starting at the same time… maybe this weekend.

    Good thinking :)

So awesome that your landlord is going to take care of your pets while you’re gone. I’m still trying to figure out what Kyle and I are going to do next month when we take another road trip…

We also have a pile kind of like yours. Kyle has recently had to take apart his car because it’s broken and he’s trying to fix it… so we’re juggling one car with two people. Hopefully he’ll be able to get it fixed within the next week! :)

Growing up I never understood why my mom made us clean the house before vacation but now I understand. It really does feel good to come home to a clean house and less chores. I hope y’all have fun on vacation.

Haha. I’m the same way. Doing any type of big clean always leads to me reorganizing and then redecorating.
