Stripes to Orange Frame Makeover
08/21/2012

On the last currently lovin’ post, I displayed a “meet me at the farmer’s market” print. I’ve since bought that print for the kitchen. I’ve been trying to put some pop’s of orange into our kitchen (like this, this & this). I knew that I didn’t want to put the print in a plain white frame, since the background of the print is white, and the kitchen backsplash is white; it would just disappear. So, I grabbed one of my 8 x 10 frames from an old project. A project that I did BEFORE the blog even started, crazy huh? At the time, I took one of my frames, spray painted some stripes on it, and used it as a dry erase board for the fridge in our old apartment.

I took the frame outside and sanded it down a bit, to get a nice smooth surface and then I spray painted the entire frame with grey primer. Once it was dry, I took some bright Orange spray paint and did three coats on the frame for a nice clean finish.

Once it was dry, I put the print inside and hung it in the kitchen where there already was a nail. I didn’t want to hang it over the stove because I didn’t want grease splatter to get all over the glass, and I was going to hang it over the sink, but none of the nails were centered, they were just kind of scattered around, and I was not about to put more holes in the landlord’s tile, even though the last tenant put holes everywhere.

So now the little guy just hangs out in the kitchen. I’m hoping that our future house has the perfect place for this little guy, because every time I look at it I smile. Such a great little print.

** I was not paid or perked by TheWheatfield Etsy shop. She has no idea who I am. I just love her prints. You can go check them all out here. **

I guess I’m going to echo everyone else- looks great with the orange frame! It really just makes the print stand out. Plus it’s great that you could use something you already had on hand.

I swear I must be incapable of spray painting… nothing I’ve attempted has been smooth, beautiful, or flawless. Perhaps its because I attempted to tackle a piece of furniture first instead of something simple like a frame? Any advice?

    P.S. I loveeeeeeee the orange! :)

Sand, Primer, then spray paint the color you’d like. Also, you want to keep the can at least 8 inches away, and sway your arm while spraying so you get a light even coat. Do at least 3 coats, lightly and you should be golden. :)
