Weekend Wrap-Up #16
06/25/2012
It was a very focused, get things done kind of weekend.
I had some projects I wanted to get done, and Travis had some car stuff he wanted to get done
so instead of going camping in Kutztown, Pennsylvania over the weekend, we stayed home. Actually, we spent the weekend at my parent’s house with my brother (the ‘rents were camping). So, once Travis came home from work on Friday night, we loaded up the cars and drove the half hour drive to my parent’s place where we just started going at it.

I was getting my spray paint on, while Travis was installing a bigger turbo in his car.
(boys and their toys… all I see is $$$$$)

We were up until midnight getting things done, but eventually I couldn’t take it anymore because
the mosquitoes were eating me alive out in the garage, so I came inside and got a bubble bath.
I haven’t had a bubble bath in at least two years since both of our apartments have only had shower stalls.

We lugged our air mattress along for the weekend,
since my parent’s don’t have a spare bed or anything.
We blew it up in the family room and slept there.

The mattress has a slow leak though, so by morning it was pretty deflated
and I ended up sinking in the middle of it, like it was swallowing me whole.
My sore back and neck are not happy but I could of probably slept all day, I was that tired.
But by 8:30am, Travis was jumping on the already deflated bed so I would get up,
he wanted to head out to the hardware store for a brass fitting
that he needed for an oil line in his car… if I would of known what the
day had in store for me, I would have stayed in bed.

We headed to Lowes first to look for a brass fitting,
we need a Metric size 12 1.50 fitting, with the other end being a 1/4 inch or something…
I don’t really know, I was too busy looking at other stuff, oops.
Anyways, Lowes didn’t have it, so we went to AutoZone… no luck.
Advanced Auto, they use to have the part, but it was not popular so they pulled it.
So, we drove all the way into the city (45 minutes) to PepBoys who thought
they had the part when Travis talked to them on the phone. Did they have it? Nope.

Travis then called up a Volkswagen performance garage
near my parent’s place and they had what he needed.
So, we drove an hour there from the city. $30 later, Travis still needed some kind of bolt,
so we stopped at Home Depot thinking this would be an easy find. Ha!
They didn’t have any metric sizes (WTF, Home Depot? Lowes > Home Depot).
By this time, I was getting pretty darn grumpy. It was 1:30 in the afternoon and we still
didn’t even eat breakfast since we started this fiasco at 9AM,
so Travis stopped at McDonalds so we could get some grub.

Of course, they forgot to give my brother his soda thru the drive-thru,
so I had to run if for it (Best sister ever? I think so.)
While in there I had an awkward encounter with a dude in there.
We both went to grab a lid at the same time,
then we both stopped mid-reach and said at the same time “sorry, go ahead“,
we both looked at each other, and said again at the same time “no, you go“,
after an awkward pause, we both just reached for a lid at the same time and
I face-palmed my self on the way out of the store.
Hello, My name is Awkward, Nice to meet you.
Right before Travis pulled the car away then, one of the young girls
working there ran out and handed us a flurry. Score!
Except, when we pulled away we realized that the flurry
was probably for someone else, and they confused cars up.
Oh let this day be over.
We stopped at Lowes and a Mom & Pop hardware store after McDonalds
where we didn’t find what we needed, so Travis decided to just Jerry-Rig
something up when we got back to my parent’s house.

Oh, but the fun didn’t stop there.
While Travis was working on his car, everything was going wrong
because he was so frustrated. The one time that he jumped down from his car,
he landed right in a container filled with coolant, so the coolant went
flying all over the tools and garage floor. I knew at this moment if I didn’t
cool Travis down, something was going to get broken which would lead to
more frustration, so I looked at him while my feet were covered in coolant,
and said go sit outside, I got this. (Best Girlfriend Ever? Yup. I’m on a roll.)
I cleaned up the coolant mess with a little help from my brother
and Travis’ anger was defused so we were good to go.

I’m writing this on Saturday evening, and so far, everything is going smoothly again.
Life is a funny thing, so many things go wrong, and it all seems to happen at once,
but looking back on everything makes for an awesome and eventful weekend.
Now, I’m sitting her drinking a Rum & Coke, listening to the country music blare,
and hanging out with Travis and my brother in the garage while the rest of the
turbo install gets done, and my sunburst mirror dries.
Life is good.

Oh man! Sounds like you had quite the Saturday!! I hate days like that but it’s great that you can look back on it with humour and realize that in the end- everything is still good. Plus- you got a free McFlurry! lol
My weekend was good. Saturday I spent working on the gifts for the wedding party- the crunch is on to complete those!! Then we had some friends over and went to a local festival. Sunday was spent with Shayne’s family since we didn’t get together for father’s day last weekend. It was great to see everyone.
Can’t wait to see your sunburst mirror!!

How crazy! We didn’t do too much of anything this weekend, just replaced weather stripping on the exterior doors and watched the Euro Cup with some friends.

I’m not sure what it is about boys and their cars… when Adam and I were going steady a few years ago, I spent most of my weekends watching him work on his Integra. He also has a horrid temper when it comes to things not going as planned (with cars).
My weekend was eventful (both good and bad)… need to get on getting my What’s in a Weekend? post finished tonight!

I don’t get it either, and it’s not like it’s a cheap hobby either. I always tell him spending $1,500 on a turbo is not the same as me spending $7 on a chalkboard. Our hobbies are two way different price ranges.
