Bunting for the Chalkboard

Remember how I said I wanted to make some bunting for my chalkboard in the kitchen? Well, last Thursday after work I made some. My first ever set of bunting, and now I think I’m addicted to bunting. Except more to made for holidays, birthday… etc.

Materials Needed:

  • Jute or Bakers Twine: $2.99 (I used Jute)
  • Scrapbook Paper (I used 2 sheets) $0.59 each
  • Scissors & Tape
  • Some regular paper (for use as a template

Total: $4.17 (I ♥ projects under five bucks)

The first thing I did to make my bunting, is I cut a template out of regular paper. Just a simple triangle.

Then I grabbed my scrapbook paper sheets. I choose two patterns with the same color scheme.

I took my template and traced it onto the back of the scrapbook paper (so you don’t see the marks). I also added a little rectangle onto of my triangle. You’ll see why soon.

Then I grabbed my jute and cut it to my desired length.

Here are all of my triangles cut out and ready to be made into some bunting. :)

You want to lay your jute out, and then fold the rectangle part of the triangle over and tape it down. Just keep doing this for as many triangles you need, and space them evenly apart.

Once you’re done, just hang & enjoy. :)

VERY cute! This is dorky – but I really like how the colors of the bunting are repeated in the colors of the chalk!

The design is very clever! I totally would have ended up doing both sides and wasting paper, instead of that little lip. Hah. Way to make a chalkboard look purty!

Very cute! Definitely spruces the chalkboard up. Looks like an easy project too, which is always good.

I have an addiction to bunting too! We’ve been making it for the wedding and just made a ton more on the weekend. I need to stop now though lol.

Love how yours turned out! The colours are so happy, cheerful and great for Spring!

    It looks super cute!
I wouldn’t have thought to just do a little tab to hang the triangle off the jute. I would have ended up doubling my process and cut out a full diamond to fold in half.

It’s so cute! I want to do bunting as decoration for our wedding but I really don’t know where to start. Since I don’t sew using paper is actually kind of perfect… and cutting them with “arrow” shape is genius!
