Saint Patrick’s Day Wreath

I finally got my St. Patrick’s’ Day wreath done, after about three weeks of working on it. I kept running out of felt sheets, and then having to run to multiple craft stores where they were either sold out of the green color I needed, or only had a few sheets. But it’s done and I love it. :) I’ve fallen in love with felt circle wreath’s, so I think I’m going to make one for every Holiday. In case you want to make one yourself, I’ve put together a list of what you’ll need to buy and a little bit of a tutorial on how to do it.

What you’ll need:

  • Wreath Form
  • Green Felt Sheets (I used 17)
  • White Felt Sheets (I used 19)
  • Scissors, Hot Glue, Hot Glue Gun
  • Saint Patty’s Day decorations (optional)
  • Plastic Cup (used to make a circle shape)

What you’ll want to do is cut circles out of your felt sheets. I used the bottom of a solo cup to get my shape and then I used a pencil to trace around the cup. I cut 1 circle out that way, and then I just used that circle as a template for the rest of my circles, so only 1 felt circle had pencil marks on it.

Once your circles are cut out, you just put a dot of hot glue onto your wreath form, and then stick the center of the felt circle onto that hot glue dot. You’ll want to put your dots of hot glue almost right next to the previous one, so your felt starts to bunch up and is tight together.

Just keep working your way around, it’s pretty time consuming, but worth it in the end.

Once you’re done with the felt circles you can glue on some St. Patty’s Day decorations if you wish, I used three shamrocks for an off center decoration. Once you’re done, you’ll have something that looks like this:

Project Cost Breakdown:

Jo-Ann’s Fabric Store –

  • 6 Apple Green Felt Sheets = $2.04 @ 34 cents per sheet
  • 16 White Felt Sheets = $5.44 @ 34 cents per sheet
  • Wreath Form = Regular $4.99, 50% off with coupon = $2.49
  • Pack of Clovers = $1.49

Michael’s Craft Store –

  • 11 Apple Green Felt Sheets = $3.19 @ 29 cents per sheet
  • 3 White Felt Sheets = $0.87 @ 29 cents per sheet

Total: $15.53 (before sales tax)

Weekend Wrap-Up #1

What is Weekend Wrap-Up? It’s a way for me to capture/document my weekends (Friday’s from 4PM EST until I go to sleep Sunday Night) by taking random pictures from my cell phone or Nikon D5000 and posting them here every Monday morning.

Why? It gives you guys a peek into my life, and even sneak peeks into projects I’m currently working on. It’s also so I can look back and see what I did on certain weekends and I just think it would be fun to have.

Weekend Wrap-Up #1
March 9th – March 11th

We got a lot done this weekend. Friday night the boys did some drinking and I stocked up on some craft supplies at JoAnn & Michaels. On Saturday it was my birthday – so Travis worked on his car all day, and I got a few projects done, while we were over at my parent’s house. On Sunday, we went and traded Travis’ wheels + some cash, for a new turbo kit for his car and we did an oil change for my car. I also noticed in my car manual, that my car arrived at the dealership on March 10th, 1999 and my birthday is March 10th – Coincidence? ;) It was meant to be.

How was your weekend? Feel free to post a link to a picture that captured your weekend!

New Topics Section!

If you are viewing Mailbox Journey in a reader, click on over and check out the new topics section!

Hey All! We’re half way thru the work week! Woohoo! :D

I’ve made a couple changes to the sidebar recently, and I thought I’d let you know what’s up, so check out the screenshot below and I’ll explain everything after that!

[1] I’ve added a little about me box underneath the contact box. (that little box above is for contacting, following or subscribing to Mailbox Journey, along with the Archives and Blog links) It’s just a little blurb about a few things about me, but you can still get the whole shebang on the navigation bar, by clicking “about“. This little box is still sort of under construction, because I don’t really like the picture that I had to use. (I’ve realized that Travis & I do not have any good pictures of ourselves together or separate. I’ve gotta change that.) It will evolve over time, along with the little tid-bit paragraph. (Becoming a home owner eventually, gaining family members… as in a dog, sorry mom!)

[2] I’ve added a topic sections as well. I wasn’t loving the drop-down menu or the list of categories. So, I made my own little buttons for each category, which I think makes things sooo much easier. Just click on the green topics tab, and it should go right to a list that sort of looks like this below: (but in a long 1-column list, not a 2-column list.)

Please note, that the bottom button called, Weekend Wrap-Up, is not working yet. I don’t have any posts under that category yet. (It’s brand new & should be on the blog pretty soon!) So, if you click it, it will just take you to a “Not Found” page.

How’s your work week going? Do you know what you are doing for the Pinterest Challenge that was announced this morning? I don’t have the slightest idea what I’m doing for mine – Off to Pinterest to figure that out!
