Attempts At Domestication

Hey there! My name’s Ashley and I’m a newlywed housewife from Richmond, VA. My husband and I met as kids and dated all through college before getting married in April 2011. We love traveling, watching movies, hanging out with our friends, cooking and Star Wars. My blog started as a way to keep my college friends, who are scattered all over the country, up to date on my life, but I’ve really gotten into the whole DIY blog thing. It keeps me motivated to try new things and to actually make the things I pin on Pinterest. I do posts about my attempts at DIY, crafts, throw in a lot of random stuff about my life and share recipes from time to time too. My husband and I just moved into our first home, so we are in the process of shifting focus to mainly home decor and DIY.. I’d love for you to come check us out and follow me on Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest!

Hi there! I’m Louise…I’m an Apparel Designer and mother of 2 beautiful girls who was just recently laid off from my company back in July 2011. When I got the axe, I had two options…One, cry my eyes out, crawl under a rock & find another boss who may/may not lay me off…or Two, wipe my eyes and start a brand new life on my own terms! I chose the latter, and now I’m “Redesigning Life, Love and Motherhood.” I don’t know where this blog will take me, but hopefully you’ll come and join me for this amazing journey!

A Home In College Hill

Hello there! A Home In College Hill is a home renovation/design blog with written by newlyweds (that’s me!) with a bit of experience, a few tools, lofty ambitions and eyes bigger than our wallets. My name is Rachel and I’ve had a passion for decorating and home design since I can remember and I started blogging to document the restoration and renovation of my 1932 Tudor home. I am tackling new house projects all the time, and sharing my experiences on the blog along the way. Please stop by for details on my progress and occasionally some ‘renovation reality’ comic relief.

Keepin’ It Real; Confessions Style

You know how blogs, including mine, mostly show pictures of their projects, recipes and daily updates with their apartment/houses lookin’ spick and span. No clutter, everything is clean and looks like a magazine ad. Well, that’s not real life. It’s staged and of course, gorgeous. But real life is not that glamorous. Let’s face it, after working a 40 – 60 hour week, and barely having enough time after work to do much of anything before hitting the sack, our apartments and homes get a little chaotic by the time Friday rolls around. So, I thought I’d show you guys what our apartment typically looks like on a Friday night once the chaos of the work week ends, and the fun is about to begin. & maybe you’ll do a little confessing yourself, and post your end of the week chaos pictures on your blog too! :)

We spend almost every single night after work in the living room. It’s where we eat, nap, and watch our nightly tv shows. & as you can see there is random things on the couches, floors and table. I have supplies to make a wreath on the loveseat, the wicker basket (that you’ve seen here) made it’s way to the floor, and there is a post-it-note and a sock on the floor.

Moving onto the other side of the living room, you can see that Travis’ has taken apart his electronic drum set, because he recently sold it all on ebay and coco’s toys are scattered around a bit.

Our mudroom is now housing tires at the moment, since Travis’ finally put his winter wheels on his car last night (better late then never, I guess) A random shelf is leaning against the wall, and my shoes have given their spot to those tires.

The bathroom is not looking that bad, just one of Travis’ work shirts are drying in the shower. & I just realized that you guys have never seen this angle of the bathroom.

I’m usually lookin’ like this by the end of the workday and the work week. Sweats, one of Travis’ old shirts and messy hair. The work day is over, time to relax. :)

Our hamper is usually overflowing by the end of the week as well & I can never seem to keep up with it all.

Our bedroom is usually looking the worse. We rarely make the bed, there are random tools usually laying around, like that tape measure on the cedar chest and our clean clothes always sit in the wash baskets forever. I hate hanging clothes, I like to fold them and put them away though. So all of the clothes that need hung, usually don’t make it into the closet. When Travis & I do eventually purchase a house, our walk-in closet will have more shelves than hangers.

The storage room is chaos, more often than not. It’s just impossible to stay organized in there. It’s such a small space, with so much stuff. And we use the things in there often.

Our kitchen counters are always filled up with things as well. Like a cup, random pliers (I think Travis was fixing the can opener with them) and empty wine bottles (I had a very stressful week, so I drank a lot of wine, plus I rinse out and save wine bottles.)

The kitchen table has been filled with projects since it made it’s debut back into the kitchen. & Travis’ shoes are in the kitchen for some reason.

Time to go and clean this mess now, only to wreck it again next week!

It’s Four O’Clock Somewhere

Remember that cute green pot I bought from Ollies over the weekend? Well, it already has some flower seeds living in it, I just couldn’t wait. I went to Lowes on President’s Day and picked up some top soil and seeds.

I picked Four O’Clocks out of the 100′s of seeds they had. I was going to get African Violet’s, but they didn’t seem to have any.

You’re only suppose to put one seed per 6-12 inches, but I like to break the rules and planted quite a few in my pot – What’s the worse that could happen?

This gorgeous pot is now living in the only room that gets sunlight, the bathroom. & because the bathroom has ccahhhrazy tile, the pot doesn’t look as gorgeous. It just kind of looks blah. Oh well, one day it will live in a gorgeous, I’m proud of, bathroom.

I’ll keep you updated on my little flowers, whether they bloom or not. :)

Have you planted anything lately?
