Corks, Closets & Calla Lilies

The wedding over the weekend was freaking fantastic! I didn’t feel good at all during the reception, but I still had a blast. I paid for it the next day by being severely dehydrated and getting a lecture for not taking good care of myself because I haven’t really been eating or drinking much lately thanks to that infection I got two weeks ago, but I’m almost back to 100% again. I just need one good night’s sleep and I should be ready to go. :) Oh, and I should have some pictures posted from the wedding within the next couple days.

On Sunday, we went to an indoor car show (which was terrible) and I saw something really cool, that the rest of you wine lovers might like as well.

I want one, in my non-existent basement right now!
After the car show, we went to the movies and saw The Adventures of Tin Tin in 3D. (Loved it!)

Once we got back home that night, Travis and I were talking about getting rid of more things we own. (we hate clutter and so do our allergies.) We decided that we really needed to go through our closets and get rid of some clothes that have been hanging in there forever. So, when I got home from work today that’s exactly what I did.

It looks so bare now and Travis decided to put a clothing budget into place so we can both buy new clothes, since clothing is something we seriously lack and need.

Now, back to the wedding. I CAUGHT THE BOUQUET! (Engaged soon? ;)…) I was super excited when that happened, until the garter flew over my boyfriend’s head and into the hands of a man older than my father. But oh well, it gave everyone a good laugh, including me. (Pictures on that soon.) So now I have two bouquets of both calla lilies and roses.

Did you notice that basket on the coffee table? That’s our catch all basket. It has a bunch of random things in it that we just throw in there so it’s not all over the table. It’s either in use, was in use and needs put away, or it’s things we use frequently. So just for fun, I thought I’d show you everything that’s in that basket at the present moment.

        1. Aleve – We get a lot of headaches thanks to allergies.
        2. Travis’ blow off valve for his turbo. No idea why it’s in the basket.
        3. My car keys.
        4. My clutch, since I can’t use a purse right now because of my shoulder.
        5. Lotion and Pens
        6. Healing lotion for a mark on my neck thanks to that illness I got.
        7. Notepad – I make a lot of lists.
        8. Painters tape. No idea why or what it was used for.
        9. Travis’ Kobalt tool thing.
        10. Random cables.
        11. Travis’ computer tweezers, some velcro and a lighter for our candles.
        12. Some random candy from Christmas. Two 3 musketeers and a Milky Way.

It’s all just a bunch of randomness.
Can you believe January is almost over already?
It’s soon Valentine’s Day! :D

Valentine’s Day Mantel (still in progress)

A few days ago I picked up a pack of five hearts at Jo Ann Fabric Store for only $1.90 after taxes. (6% sales tax here in Pa.) I was going to make garland with them for the mantel, but since we use our fireplace, I didn’t want them to hang that low. So, I came up with an alternative, and in the process found a way to sort of make the surround sound speakers blend in.

Here is what our mantel was looking like right before I whipped up some valentine’s day candles. There were cords everywhere, and everything just seemed blah.

I’ve since spruced up the candles, added some art and added these cute valentine’s day hearts to the mix.

I just scattered the hearts across the mantel by placing the ribbon under the candlesticks, speaker, and frames.

They spin freely and catch the light, which is really nice. But this is apartment living people, so it’s nothing too exciting or beautiful, but it helps me cope with the fact that I can’t take down walls or paint things.

I think the black frames help tie in the surround sound speakers (I wish I could hide them all together) and the cords are somewhat hidden. But it will due for now. I just have to sit here and imagine the walls without that weird texture on them, paint on the walls, and a brown stone fireplace that extends to the ceiling. Oh, I can’t wait until we buy a house. I’m getting way too anxious. Oh, by the way – Yes, that picture frame to the left has the stock image in it. I have a Valentine’s Day printable in the works for that. Hopefully more on that next week! :)

Have a great weekend everyone! I’ll be super busy with a wedding (maid-of-honor) and a car show. Plus, I’m still battling this infection – can’t wait until I’m healthy again. What are your weekend plans?

Wooden Hearts

I’ve been battling some sort of mysterious bacteria infection for the past week, so I haven’t really finished any projects around the apartment, but here is a really quick & easy project I did a week ago with some leftover wooden hearts that I had in my craft supplies. It’s of course for Valentine’s Day.

I just took a bunch of wooden hearts I had in various sizes, and painted them with some red and pink (red + white) paint. Once they were dry, I stuck them in a hurricane vase along with one of the pillar candles I decorated.
