Pinterest Challenge – #1

This is my first ever Pinterest Challenge that I’m participating in, which is kind of intimidating! I’m not gonna lie. Anyways the Pinterest Challenge, Fall Edition is hosted by these lovely ladies: Young House Love, Bower Power, Ana White & House of Earnest.
The project I picked for this challenge looks a bit like this and it’s from a cute Etsy shop called bluebirdheaven. The key rack from bluebirdheaven sells for around $32, but I made my own version for around $10. (I only had to pay for stain & a stain foam brush)

I used some old wooden blocks that my parent’s still had around, and 4 brass hooks.

Travis drilled some holes into the center of the blocks, so I could easily screw the hooks into place.

I decided to use primer on this project, and then follow up with some white spray paint.

Once the blocks were dry, Travis painted the letters black. (I attempted to paint the letters twice, but I’m way too impatient to get nice clean lines, but Travis was able to do it during his first go at it, Thanks babe!)

I decided to paint the mounting wood with some dark walnut stain.

Once the stain dried, I realized that everything I need to mount the blocks onto the wood, and to hang the mounting wood with, is all at the new apartment. So this project is not exactly finished, it’s actually around 90% complete, but here is what it’s looking like right now. I’ll make sure that I post pictures of the key rack once it’s hung up in the next apartment (probably next week).

Please feel free to leave your project link in the comments section below!

Just re-read that and it sounds rude! I just meant I’d never have looked at that inspiration image and realised I could make it myself. You made it look easy.

It’s okay, Annabel, I didn’t think it was rude at all, but thanks for caring. :)
It is really easy though, you should make it sometime!

I love it! I need to make a key hook so bad; the cats like to run off with the keys when we leave them on the table.

Turned out great! I wouldn’t have had the patience to paint the letters either :)

I get too anxious and shakey for little detailed things like that, one day I will learn how to be patient, but not today! :p

Very fun. You should put it up first thing in your new place – so that no matter how insane things get, at least you know where your keys are. =)
